DESCRIPTION: Prada Epicenter is a proposed ten-story, 32,000 SF retail building, located in the heart of one of the premier shopping districts in San Francisco, California: Union Square. The building, when complete, will house six levels of high-end retail, an outdoor park on top of those six floors and offices, and a penthouse above. The design utilizes the latest in architectural engineering in creating movable glass entry walls, clear span spaces and glass floor systems. The innovative planning concept, extensive use of custom fabricated materials and the latest in architectural and information technology resulted in an iconic and engaging retail environment. Brand + Allen Architects, in close collaboration with
OMA, helped to create the initial project concept and later spear-headed the city approval process, and provided leadership in coordinating an extensive team of consultants in the design development, testing and execution of the project. The construction of the proposed building is Type-I, and the structure employs the most current advancements in seismic technology with stainless steel base isolators and 1 inch thick stainless steel panels at the perimeter for lateral bracing. The exterior of the building consists of a curtain wall system with a combination of starphire glass and limestone plugs, and monolithic stainless steel panels. The interior utilizes a wide array of custom materials, finishes and architectural and information technology.
