PROJECT: SOUTH BANK RETAIL DEVELOPMENT
LOCATION: SAN ANTONIO, TX
COMPLETED: SEPT 1995
BUDGET: 8 Million Dollars
SIZE: 50,000 Square Feet
DESCRIPTION: The South Bank is a 50,000 SF retail development, located on the banks of the San Antonio River Walk in the city of San Antonio, Texas. The project complex is bisected by a series of landscaped pedestrian walkways and terraces. In addition to creating greater frontage for the retail spaces and providing convenient physical connections from the city streets to the river bank, these pedestrian walkways introduced new view corridors that reengage the city with its river. The project consists of a series of three-story high retail buildings with richly textured materials, elegantly landscaped courts and terraces. The three-story high retail buildings are modulated to maximize individual retail tenant identity while enhancing urban scale and rhythm, and the design was credited with revitalizing the surrounding urban areas. Brand + Allen Architects developed the design concept for Hixson Properties, Inc. RVK of San Antonio served as the Architect of Record. The construction of the project is Type-II; the structure is a concrete frame system on a concrete pile foundation. The exterior of the building consists of a window wall system with a combination of glass and masonry cladding. The project was completed in 1995.
